SEATTLE, Wash. — They’ve only been in the exhibit for a month, but the two Woodland Park Zoo red panda cubs became small, furry fugitives when they fell from their enclosure and scampered up two nearby trees.
KOMO reports the twin 6-month-old female cubs, Zeya and Ila, were in a scuffle on a branch on Wednesday night when the branch broke and they fell outside the exhibit.
Zookeepers were able to coax Zeya away from another tree, but Ila wouldn’t budge and the standoff with her continued until almost noon on Thursday when they lured her down with apples.
She didn’t come completely quietly though, leaving a zoo keeper with a small bite and some scratches.
