BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Police found an inmate dead during a routine head count at the Whatcom County Jail last week.
Medical responders began life-saving efforts to revive 51-year-old Shane Edwards, but after 30 minutes they pronounced him deceased.
After an initial assessment, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office found nothing out of the ordinary and said Edwards was alone in his cell.
At the autopsy on December 26, it was determined that Edwards died of natural causes.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident, which will be referred to Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
