OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington State Ferries submitted a proposal to state legislature on Thursday which focuses on a set of investments and service enhancements planned over the next 20 years.
A major recommendation of the 2040 Long Range Plan is that we must build more ferries immediately.
More than half of the state’s 23 vessel fleet of ferries will be retired by 2040.
Washington State Ferries needs to build 16 new ferries in the next 20 years, 13 to replace those vessels retiring, and 3 ferries to fill in when others are out for maintenance and to respond to growth.
