SEATTLE, Wash. — The Coast Guard is asking for the public’s help in preventing unnecessary emergency responses to unmanned vessels in the Puget Sound.
Helicopter and boat crews spent about ten hours last Wednesday responding to boats that drifted from their moorings in the heavy winds.
The Coast Guard says these cases dramatically increase in the winter.
To prevent unnecessary emergency responses, the Coast Guard recommends using extra lines to tie up vessels, using a shed or garage to house boats during a storm, replace worn and weathered lines, and write contact info on things like canoes and kayaks.
