BELLINGHAM, Wash. — On this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, you can join the community in celebrating in several ways.
City government hosts their annual celebration of Dr. King’s legacy at the Mount Baker Theatre’s main stage at Noon.
Katharine Conrad with the Mount Baker Theatre says the theme this year is “Mothers of the Movement” to honor the role of women of color in the civil rights-era.
The event features a welcome from Mayor Linville, various speakers, and performances from various singers and dancers.
Admission is free but you are asked to bring a donation for the Bellingham Food Bank.
Meanwhile, the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association joins city officials for anĀ MLK Day of Service work party.
Volunteers will gather at Maritime Heritage Park to remove invasive species and plant native plants in the Whatcom Creek estuary.
The work party runs from 11 AM to 1 PM and is followed by free pizza and a raffle.
Volunteers are also asked to bring donations of warm clothing and non-perishable food for the Lighthouse Mission.
