MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Salish Sea eelgrass may have a hand in climate change.
Researchers are studying the Salish Sea to learn about something called “blue carbon.”
The Skagit Valley Herald says it refers to carbon found in plants and sediment in coastal habitats that could contribute to climate changed if released.
The group of scientists and policymakers known as the Blue Carbon Initiative hope that their research will lead to better environmental management of coastal areas.
