FERNDALE, Wash. — Western Washington University students are planning several projects to revamp downtown Ferndale.

The university proposed a partnership with the city as part of their Sustainable Communities program to oversee projects that will result in sustainable, ecological, economic and social benefits.

Students will undertake three projects — a revision of Ferndale’s downtown design regulations, a city center urban design plan that includes signage and safe school route improvements, and an Urban Design Plan to identify implementation strategies.

The Ferndale City Council unanimously voted to support the partnership project at a meeting last Tuesday.
