OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington could become the first state to legalize human composting.
KIRO reports a proposed bill is moving through the legislature and would allow for human composting, also known as “recomposition.”
The CEO of Recompose says during the process the “body is covered in natural materials, like straw or wood chips” and breaks down into soil over the course of about three to seven weeks.
If the bill makes it to the governor’s desk, Recompose hopes to start work on a special facility by 2020.
