BELLINGHAM, Wash. — You have a chance to comment on the Department of Ecology’s plan to clean up a site on Bellingham’s waterfront.
The I & J Waterway runs adjacent to Bellwether Way and past industrial activities have left it contaminated with a number of pollutants including dioxins, PCB’s and mercury.
The plan calls for removing and capping contaminated sediments, while monitoring and restricting some uses of the waterway.
It’s one of twelve sites on Bellingham Bay that are slated for clean up.
The public comment period opens next Tuesday, February 19th, and runs through March 20th.
RE Sources for Sustainable Communities will host a walking tour of the site on Saturday, February 23rd.
