SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — A Sedro-Woolley High School grad and Army combat veteran donated a U.S. flag that traveled with him during his first deployment to his school to fly over the Cubs’ football stadium.
Joey Pittis graduated in 2016 and enlisted in the Army.
He told the Skagit Valley Herald he wanted to “give back a little bit,” and thought it would “be cool for the school to have something no one else does.”
Pittis served nine months Afghanistan and says the flag was with him through twenty-two combat missions.
Pittis also donated a flag to Cascade Middle School where his parents are educators.
Today is a day I will treasure forever. Joey Pittis, a Cub graduate and currently serving in the U.S. Army presented our students and school with an American Flag that he carried with him on 22 missions in Afghanistan. We are honored and humbled by his sacrifice and love. ❤️🇺🇸💫 pic.twitter.com/Qm8hMqCBcv
