BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham and Whatcom County saw nice increases in taxable retail sales in the third quarter of 2018.
The Washington State Department of Revenue reports Bellingham had better than 8% growth in total retail sales over the third quarter of 2017, while retail trade was up almost 5%.
Total retail sales include all sales subject to the state sales tax while retail trade excludes more volatile industries such as construction.
Whatcom County saw 6.4% growth in total retail sales and an almost 7% increase in retail trade over 2017.
Skagit County had one of the highest jumps in total retail sales with a 10.4% increase.
