FERNDALE, Wash. — The Ferndale City Council voted to establish the North Whatcom Poverty Task Force to help the city and other county communities address issues related to poverty.
Ferndale Communications Director Riley Sweeney says they’ll look at ways to deal with homelessness, high housing costs, food insecurity and income inequality.
“We’re getting the best minds together to brainstorm ideas on how we can help mitigate those impacts not just for tomorrow but well into the future,” he says.
They’re looking for people who live or work outside of Bellingham and who have a variety of experience in social services, health care and other areas to fill the seven positions.
