OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington State is in the middle of the pack when it comes to how much property owners pay in taxes.

Personal finance website WalletHub ranked states based upon their effective real estate tax rate, from lowest to highest.

Washington’s effective property tax rate of 1.03 percent came in at #29, meaning 21 states had higher rates.

The highest property tax state by effective rate is New Jersey, at 2.44% of assessed value, resulting in a tax bill of $7,840 for a median-value home.

The lowest property tax rate was Hawaii at 0.27 percent.
