OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Senate passed a measure that would make it easier for Electoral College members to vote differently than the people they are supposed to represent.

The chamber passed the bill Tuesday that would remove the fine for Electoral College members who vote for someone other than candidates who win the state.

Four of the state’s twelve electors joined a long-shot effort to deny Trump the presidency in 2016 by casting their vote for someone other than their party’s nominee.

Three of those electors are currently challenging $1,000 fines for their actions.
