BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham’s fire chief is retiring and the assistant fire chief is stepping up.
Mayor Kelli Linville announced she’s appointing Bill Hewett as Interim Bellingham Fire Chief with current Fire Chief Bill Newbold set to retire on Friday.
Hewett has twenty-eight years of experience in the fire service and was hired by the Bellingham Fire Department in 2013.
Linville says she’s appointing Hewett as interim chief to allow the next mayor to have the opportunity to hire a permanent chief.
