BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Two new areas totaling almost 250 acres will be added to the City of Bellingham on April 1st.

The City says they’ll use annexation to bring an area next to the Birchwood neighborhood west of I-5 and another near the Barkley neighborhood into city limits.

Mayor Kelli Linville says the annexations will allow the City of Bellingham to provide urban-level services and a say in City government to the residents there.

Officials will be visiting the areas to obtain population and housing counts in the coming weeks.

Two other areas are currently pending annexation, including more than 800 acres near the Birchwood neighborhood and 169 acres adjacent to the Cordata and Meridian neighborhoods.

There will be a community meeting regarding the 800-acre “Alderwood annexation” on April 9 at Alderwood Elementary School.
