BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Officials discovered significant contamination from historical operations at the site of the Harris Avenue shipyard in Fairhaven.
The Port of Bellingham found the contaminants in soil, groundwater and sediment in levels that the agency says could be harmful to humans and the environment.
An environmental report from the Department of Ecology describes the contamination at the site and evaluates cleanup options.
The public can comment on the report starting April 1st and Ecology will hold a public meeting with more information at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal April 17th.
