OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new survey says there are nearly 400 structurally-deficient bridges in Washington.
KOMO reports the American Road & Transportation Builders Association looked at the nearly 8,300 bridges in the state, and 382, or 4.6%, are classified as structurally deficient, meaning a key element is in “poor or worse condition.”
The number of structurally-deficient bridges in the state has increased by thirty since the previous survey in 2014.
The state identified needed repairs on 6,080 bridges, which would cost an estimated $9.2 billion.
Five of the top 25 most heavily traveled deficient bridges are on I-5 and six more are on I-90, including the two floating bridges over Lake Washington.
