BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies found a young Arlington man dead after his friend reported he had killed him while they were camping near Baker Lake.
Sheriff Bill Elfo reports the suspect, 29-year-old Alexander Vanags also of Arlington, contacted the Snohomish County Sheriff’s office early Saturday and said he had killed his 28-year-old friend.
Deputies found the man dead of multiple wounds from a sharp object at a campsite on the north side of Baker Lake on U.S. Forest Service Property.
Vanags was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Elfo says circumstances surrounding the killing remain under investigation.
