BELLINGHAM, Wash — New water rules affecting Whatcom County are up for public comment.
The Department of Ecology is drafting a plan of action for future water use in the Nooksack River watershed to accommodate rural growth and protect water supply needs for fish.
Republican Senator Doug Ericksen says the new rules impose sharp restrictions on new household wells and public comment could help re-shape the proposal.
The comment period for the draft is now open and Ecology will hold public meetings:
