BIRCH BAY, Wash. — A new study says the most tax-friendly place for retirees in Washington is Birch Bay.
Financial technology company SmartAsset looked at how tax policies in places throughout the state would impact a retiree with a $50,000 income.
They then calculated the effective property tax rates, sales tax burdens and fuel taxes for each area to create an index weighted to best capture the taxes that most effect retirees.
Birch Bay topped their list of the most tax-friendly places for retirees in the state, narrowly beating out East Port Orchard.
Sedro-Woolley and Sudden Valley also made the list, coming it at numbers 8 and 9.
