MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Police pulled a body from the Skagit River Wednesday morning.
Mount Vernon Police responded to a call reporting what looked like a body floating near the east river bank just north of the SR 536 Bridge at approximately 9:30 AM.
With help from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, officers tried to reach the body in a boat but were blocked by logs and debris.
Eventually, the U.S. Border Patrol Search and Rescue team along with agents trained in swift water rescue were able to recover the body, which was handed over to the Skagit County Coroner’s Office for identification.
Lieutenant Greg Booth says it’s too early to say whether the death is suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing.
