BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County’s public buses are getting high-tech upgrades.
Whatcom Transportation Authority is introducing free wifi on all 61 of their fixed route buses this Friday.
The onboard wifi plan is the first of other major technology advancements on the way.
WTA is working on an account-based fare payment system called “TouchPass” that allows riders to pay using a “smart card” or an app on their phone.
They’re also working on technology allowing riders to track the location of their bus in real time.
