BLAINE, Wash. — A Blaine City Councilmember and Democrat is running to represent the new “coastal district” on the County Council.
Jaime Arnett announced her candidacy for the Whatcom County Council District 5 Tuesday.
She says her priorities are affordable housing, homelessness, behavioral health resources, the opioid crisis, climate change, and industries like fishing and agriculture.
The coastal district follows the coast of Whatcom County north of Bellingham, including the communities of Blaine, Birch Bay, Custer, Ferndale, Lummi Nation, Lummi Island and Point Roberts.
The district is not currently represented on the council due to 2016 redistricting.
