BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Several Whatcom County elementary schools were recognized under a new state system that looks at schools that show “exemplary” performance or make significant progress in closing opportunity and achievement gaps between students.

The Washington State Board of Education says Bellingham’s Lowell Elementary, Ferndale’s Cascadia and Mount Baker’s Acme all made progress with students in the Washington School Improvement Framework measures.

The State recognized 216 schools for closing gaps between students, demonstrating achievements in math and showing growth by narrowing the gap between the highest and lowest performing students.
