BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham’s Waypoint Park located on the old Georgia-Pacific pulp mill site earned national recognition for its restored beach.

The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association awarded the park with one of four “Best Restored Beach” awards in the country — others are in Louisiana, Texas and Florida.

Waypoint Park featuring the GP Acid Ball is the first public waterfront access point in an ongoing reclamation and redevelopment project on the site of the historic industrial pulp mill.

It offers the only direct public waterfront in Downtown Bellingham.

“This award acknowledges the remarkable public investment and commitment by the City of Bellingham toward this early action that restores and reclaims our industrial waterfront,” said Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Bryson.
