BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Just in time for summer, Bellingham’s street vending scene is getting a big boost.

The City of Bellingham approved a new ordinance and guide for sidewalk-related commerce, like food trucks, that will create new opportunities and business activities.

Under the changes, food trucks that were previously only permitted on private property can apply to use public parking spaces as long as they have support from nearby businesses.

The City says trucks may not infringe on the normal flow of traffic and the total amount of permits issued will not displace more than 10 parking spaces in any particular district.

“We have amazing food trucks and vendors in Bellingham, and we receive constant requests to see more of them downtown,” said Mason Luvera, communications director for the Downtown Bellingham Partnership.
