OLYMPIA, Wash. — Good scores in emergency preparedness and workplace safety help rank Washington as the 11th safest state, according to a new survey.

WalletHub ranked each state based on 52 indicators grouped into five categories.

Washington scored near the bottom in the personal and residential safety category which accounted for crime and for natural disasters like wildfires and flooding.

Broken down further, the state has the fewest law-enforcement employees per capita.

Minnesota was considered the safest while Mississippi was the least safe.
