MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Police are investigating the death of a female inmate at the Skagit County Community Justice Center.
The inmate was complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing, then collapsed, according to Mount Vernon Police.
Justice Center staff called 911 and performed CPR until emergency personnel took over, but the 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
While investigating, Mount Vernon detectives learned the inmate suffered from several known medical conditions and was on a number of medications.
The body was turned over to the Skagit County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.
