MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — A Bellingham man is in jail after deputies say he threatened two people with an assault-style rifle on Silver Lake Road near Maple Falls.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports that a homeowner confronted a man who was inside his vehicle that was parked in his driveway early Tuesday.

The man had an AK-47-style rifle strapped to his chest and told the homeowner to “watch out” before walking away.

Another person also reported that the same man threatened him with the rifle as he drove on Silver Lake Road.

Deputies confronted him near the entrance to Silver Lake Park and arrested him without further incident.

He was identified as 31-year-old Nicholas Burns, who is out on bond for several felonies, for assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and car prowl charges.
