GIG HARBOR, Wash. — With the construction season gearing up, the Washington State Department of Transportation says they’ve already seen three work zone crashes.

In all of the incidents, drivers struck one of the department’s “truck mounted attenuators,” which are big accordion-like devices attached to the back of a truck to absorb a crash’s impact.

According to WSDOT, a pickup struck a TMA on I-5 near DuPont on April 23.

Another one was hit on May 15 on SR 16 near Gig Harbor, and another driver hit a TMA on I-5 in Seattle just five days later.

No serious injuries were reported.

Travelers are urged to slow down and pay attention as the busy construction season continues.
