BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Invasive species could threaten recreation in and around Lake Padden.
The City of Bellingham says tiny, invasive New Zealand mud snails found in Lake Padden are known to wreak havoc on water ecology and recreational activities if they aren’t contained.
They say the species currently seems to be contained to the shoreline areas on the northwest side of the lake, but some community programs, like the Lake Padden Triathlon, are already being affected.
To prevent this species from spreading, recreation gear like kayaks and paddle boards should be thoroughly washed after each use in the lake.
