BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The owner of SAB Recycling on the Guide Meridian north of Smith Road has been linked to a string of catalytic converter thefts in Whatcom County.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports there’s been a big increase in automotive catalytic converter thefts in the county since 2018.
The sheriff’s office captured one of the thefts on video and contacted the suspect who told them the auto parts are sold to Shawn Bannon of SAB Recycling, who has a “crew of thieves” and pays them cash.
Between March and June of this year, detectives say they observed five more sales involving Bannon.
The 52-year-old Blaine man was arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail Tuesday.
