MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Mount Vernon is considering an ordinance that would allow religious organizations to welcome people who are living in their cars.
The city’s project development manager says it would be a way to get vehicles off the street and connect homeless people with services.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the city council has directed the city attorney to draft an ordinance that would require organizations to screen overnight parkers and provide restrooms.
So far, no religious organizations have approached the city with a request to host a parking site.
