BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Bellingham Police Department is getting attention for its impressive K-9 unit.
KIRO 7 released a video detailing the unit last week.
The BPD K-9 unit began in 1969, making it the longest standing unit in the state.
Fifty years later, they’re going strong with multiple K-9 teams including Destro, Rudy, Prowl and Marley, the BPD’s first black lab.
They say the dogs have caught criminals, found missing persons, and put their lives on the line for their handlers.
In 1969 two BPD officers suggested starting a K-9 Unit. 50 years later, going strong with 4 K-9 teams. Please watch as @JoannaKIRO7 tells the story of our K-9 Unit here: https://t.co/KQr1JrshOr.
