OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state is awarding more than $5 million to Whatcom and Skagit Counties to support parks, forests and farms.
The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board announced a series of grants Tuesday, totaling nearly $142 million.
Revenue comes from a mix of federal grants, the sale of state bonds, gas taxes and user fees.
Funded projects will conserve agricultural land, protect the California Creek estuary in Birch Bay, maintain trails near Mount Baker and the Chuckanut Mountains, and kickstart a park across from Silver Reef Casino, the Lummi Nation Community Park.
