BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University is demolishing a dormitory to make room for an even bigger one.

WWU says the new residence hall will be sited where Highland Hall currently sits, extending north on the University’s community known as “The Ridge” located along High Street.

The new building is set to open in time for fall quarter 2021, and will have more than twice the beds of Highland Hall.

The construction project will take over a nearby parking lot, but the University says the contractor will build a replacement lot for students, staff and visitors.

Construction could start as early as July 15.
