BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham counselor’s license was suspended after accusations he made sexual advances to a patient and used his position of authority to demean her when she refused him.

In May of last year, the Department of Health says Matthew Kevin Kyle Smith was working at the Lake Whatcom Residential and Treatment Center when he made inappropriate, sexually suggestive comments to a resident there.

His license was suspended for at least two years.

The agency says he hasn’t responded to requests for a explanation.
