MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — A woman wanted for multiple charges turned herself in after deputies found she had hidden her stepson in a crawl space at her Maple Falls home earlier this month.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says Debbie Johnson turned herself in Thursday for various charges including rendering criminal assistance for hiding her stepson, Wayne Bisbee, in a crawl space under the floor and covering it up.

Bisbee was wanted on an outstanding felony community custody violation warrant by the Washington Dept. of Corrections.

A search of Johnson’s home earlier this month also turned up heroin and meth, and a sawed off shotgun with the serial number removed.

Deputies didn’t arrest Johnson right away since she was the primary caregiver for a resident in her home and needed to make arrangements.
