BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A longtime Bellingham electric company is offering a lifeline for workers of a company that’s closing, and also doing its part to keep the industry alive.
Mac and Mac Electric recently purchased equipment from Sea-Alaska Industrial in Snohomish and has brought on many of its employees.
Owner Eddie Goodsir says that leaves Mac and Mac as one of only three industrial electric companies north of Seattle.
“Their employees are now driving up from Lake Stevens and working in our shop here in Bellingham . . . . we absorbed a lot of their customer base and clientele,” he says.
You may have seen the electric cars they’ve built outside their shop on Iowa Street, but Goodsir says the bulk of their work is on 600 to 1000 horsepower industrial motors.
He says the work is hard and not too glamorous but they’re hoping to attract more young people to the industry.
Mac and Mac currently has a young woman and a BTC student working as apprentices.
