BELLINGHAM, Wash. — While a fire Wednesday evening destroyed two more historic downtown Bellingham businesses, the owners of one have some good news.
Clark’s Feed and Seed says they were able to save 15 bettas and 2 clownfish after the fire was put out.
Meanwhile, video on Avalon Records’ Facebook page shows the devastation of their building with the caption “a total loss.”
A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for both businesses.
Clark’s employees are hoping to get back into what’s left of their store to look for any surviving fish.
Vienna Cleaners nearby says while there is some smoke and water damage to their building, no clothes were damaged in the fire.
Dave Pethick with the Bellingham Fire Department says finding the cause of the fire is a slow process at this point.
“There’s some question about the integrity of the building, so the inspectors are taking their time to make sure they can get in there and be in a safe environment to do that investigation,” he says.
This fire happened about five months to the day after a fire that destroyed Hohl’s Feed and Seed next door.
