BIRCH BAY, Wash. — A gray whale has been seen exploring Birch Bay and wildlife experts say that could be bad news.
The whale was spotted in Birch Bay waters several times since mid-June.
Victoria Souze, principal investigator for the Whatcom Marine Mammal Stranding Network told The Northern Light that the whale was likely trying to find more food before continuing its migration north.
She says July is an unusual time to see whales this far south and the animal is likely stressed.
The Northern Light reports the whale hasn’t been seen in several days and may have left the area.
