BLAINE, Wash. — A man accused of smuggling Chinese migrants across the Canadian border through Peace Arch Park in Blaine has pleaded guilty.

Officials suspect 62-year-old Michael Kong of Vancouver was involved in an elaborate operation that may have helped smuggle hundreds of migrants into Canada over the last few years.

The Vancouver Sun says Kong pleaded guilty to four of the seven counts of human smuggling in B.C. Provincial Court on Monday.

If Kong is proven guilty, it could mean a minimum sentence of three years in jail.
