FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale High School’s Old Main building is safe to use for a new City Hall, now it’s up to the residents to decide if it should be.

The City of Ferndale posted a list of pros and cons on Facebook looking for thoughts from the community.

Pros include reusing a historic building, freeing up Main Street space while staying close and allowing more partnership opportunities with the school district.

As for cons, maintenance and construction could be higher for the old building, it would need to be adapted for city use, and traffic would increase near the high school during court.

RMC Architects says converting the old building would be comparable in cost to building a whole new facility.

The City Council will consider the plan at its Monday meeting.
