OLYMPIA, Wash. — The State Department of Ecology is proposing updated regulations to strengthen oil spill response for facilities, vessels and pipelines in Washington.

The proposed amendments to the Oil Spill Contingency Plan Rule would help bring oil spill requirements in line with the increased movement of oil across the state.

The Department says they’re especially concerned with the cleanup of sinking oils as the transport of these oils in Washington is becoming more common.

Other concerns include requirements for spill management and wildlife teams.

The amendments would also require contingency plan holders to participate in a complex large-scale drill.
