TATOOSH ISLAND, Wash. — An entangled humpback whale was freed off the Washington coast Thursday night.

NOAA Fisheries says ropes had hog-tied the whale between its mouth and tail off the Olympic Peninsula.

The whale was first spotted by a fishing charter boat in the area, that stayed with the whale until rescue teams from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Makah Tribe, and others arrived.

The whale appeared to be in good condition and was swimming normally after the rescue team removed the ropes that bound it.
