MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Mount Vernon’s mayor testified Monday in the trial concerning a City police officer who was shot in 2016.

Jill Boudreau discussed several texts and a phone call with alleged shooter Ernesto Rivas the night officer Michael McClaughry was shot.

Boudeau and Rivas had met during Boudreau’s 2015 campaign for re-election but hadn’t spoken since.

According to records obtained by the Skagit Valley Herald in April 2017, the first text Rivas sent the night of the shooting read: “Come 2 my house,” and listed Rivas’ address.

Boudreau responded with “tell me what is happening,” and Rivas replied “I’m going to die.”

Boudreau testified that she asked him if he shot her police officer.

Rivas said he didn’t know and then apologized several times.
