BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham’s Lakeway Fred Meyer is participating in a food drive to help with a regional disaster response exercise.

The mock scenario behind the exercise involves a magnitude 8.5 earthquake that takes down all pass highways and major airports in western Washington.

Bellingham International and primary Jefferson, Walla Walla, Clallam and Kitsap County airfields have survived.

The Bellingham community is a food collection point to assist Jefferson county.

To simulate this, volunteer pilots will be activating a disaster airlift response plan, flying supplies across the region.

To donate, purchase canned or boxed foods from the Lakeway Fred Meyer between August 21st and September 21st and drop it off at their customer service desk.
