SEATTLE, Wash. — A state ferry worker was bitten by a bat while on the job Sunday.

KOMO reports the woman was working on the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route when she picked up what she thought was trash but turned out to be a bat.

Workers recovered the bat so it could be tested for rabies.

Health officials say anyone who is bitten by a bat should preserve the animal for testing and see a doctor.

About 10% of the state’s bat population carries the rabies virus.
