BLAINE, Wash. — A Birch Bay man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of arson.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Landon Lee Larson is suspected of trying to burn down a house under construction in a new housing development in Blaine.
The owner used cameras to identify a possible suspect and told deputies about Larson.
Deputies say Larson admitted to trying to burn the home down twice, once using Molotov cocktails and a few days later using a spray bottle of gasoline.
Larson and his mother said he suffered from mental health issues and couldn’t stop his impulses.
Larson told deputies he targeted that home because he knew no one lived there yet.
